1. Who we are
SpodEnglish.com (“we”, “us”) is a website offering interactive English exercises. The website is operated by Robert Spoden, based in Turkey.

2. What information we collect
Information collected automatically. When you visit the site, our servers and analytics tools may record your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, pages visited, time spent on pages, and the website you came from. We do not use this to identify you personally.
Information you give us. If you contact us by email or through a form, or leave a comment, we receive the details you provide, such as your name, email address and message. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we receive your email address.
Exercise answers. Our quizzes and exercises run in your browser. We do not store your answers on our servers.
3. How we use your information
- To operate, maintain and improve the website and its exercises
- To understand which content is useful and how visitors use the site
- To reply to your messages
- To send newsletters, only if you have subscribed
- To keep the site secure and prevent abuse
4. Legal basis for processing (EU/EEA visitors)
If you are in the European Economic Area, we process your data on these bases: your consent (analytics and advertising cookies, newsletter), our legitimate interest in running and securing the site, and, where relevant, steps needed to answer your requests.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use:

- Analytics cookies, such as Google Analytics, which tell us how the site is used. These are only set if you accept them.

7. International transfers
Our server is in Germany, and we operate from Turkey. Some of the services above, such as Google, may process data in other countries, including the United States. Where required, these providers use legal safeguards for such transfers.
8. How long we keep data
Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in our analytics account ([e.g. 14 months]). Emails and messages are kept as long as needed to deal with your request. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct or delete it
- Restrict or object to its processing
- Withdraw consent at any time
- Receive a copy of your data in a portable format
- Complain to your local data protection authority

10. Children
The site is educational and may be used by young learners, but we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16 without a parent’s or guardian’s consent. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including HTTPS encryption. No online service can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
