EmmaHi, Jack! How was your weekend?

JackIt was interesting, but not very relaxing. My friend Ben and I went to the seaside on Saturday.

EmmaThat sounds nice! Where did you go?

JackWe went to a small town called Brighton. We wanted to spend the day on the beach and have lunch near the sea.

EmmaDid you travel by train?

JackYes, we did. We planned to catch the 9:00 train, but we arrived at the station late. We missed it, so we had to wait for the next one.

EmmaOh no! What time did you arrive?

JackWe got there at about 10:30. The weather was sunny when we left home, but it started raining on the train.

EmmaThat’s terrible! Did you still go to the beach?

JackWe did, but it was cold and windy. We walked along the beach for a little while, then we went to a café.

EmmaAt least you had a nice lunch!

JackNot really. The café was very busy, so we waited for almost an hour. Then Ben realized he had left his wallet on the train.

EmmaSeriously? What did you do?

JackWe called the train company, but nobody found it. Luckily, I had enough money to pay for lunch and our tickets home.

EmmaHow did you get back?

JackWe caught the 5:00 train. When we got home, we were tired and wet. But we laughed about it later.

EmmaWould you go there again?

JackYes, definitely—but next time, we’ll check the weather and leave home earlier!
