Reading passage
Tom is thirty-two years old and works in an office. Every morning, he checks his phone before he gets out of bed. He reads messages, looks at social media, and watches short videos. He often spends more than three hours a day on his phone.
One Monday, Tom's friend Sarah tells him about a digital detox challenge. The idea is simple: spend less time using phones, computers, and other digital devices.
Tom decides to try the challenge for seven days. He turns off most of his phone notifications and stops using his phone during meals. In the evenings, he reads books, cooks dinner, or goes for a walk.
The first two days are difficult. Tom often wants to check his phone. He feels bored when he waits for the bus or sits at home. But after a few days, things change. He sleeps better and has more time for his hobbies.
On Friday, Tom meets Sarah at a café. They talk for two hours without looking at their phones. Tom realizes that he enjoys spending time with people more when he isn't distracted.
At the end of the week, Tom doesn't want to stop using technology completely. However, he decides to keep some new habits. He leaves his phone outside the bedroom at night and doesn't use it during meals.
Tom's challenge teaches him an important lesson: technology is useful, but it's good to take a break sometimes.
